The reasons for which both directions of time cannot be equivalent remain unknown and continue to stir debate in scientific circles. This communication relates the irreversibility of time to the effect radiation has on the motion of a charged particle in an external field. A proof is put forward of this property being inherent in all known interactions by virtue of the signal propagation velocity being finite, as well as of the quantum nature of radiation.
