The author's strong feeling about the necessity to reintroduce the old luminiferous ether, in a modernized version as the recently defined field of light [Phys. Essays 3,156 (1990)], into the very foundations of physics is confronted extensively with corresponding opinions from many of the greatest masters of physics.
