The Fizeau effect is reinterpreted based on the classical electron theory of optics. The Ives‐Stilwell experiment is shown to be incorrectly considered a test of validity for the transverse Doppler effect of the special theory of relativity. A reinterpretation, based on the longitudinal Doppler effect, light's wave‐corpuscle dualism, and conclusions drawn from the reinterpretation of the experiments, is offered.
